Before arriving in Paris we passed through Caen (not to be confused with Cannes). Caen is a commune in northwestern France known for its historical buildings built during the reign of William the Conqueror, who was buried here. It is also know for the Battle for Caen - heavy fighting took place in and around Caen during the Battle of Normandy in 1944, destroying much of the town. During the battle many of the town's inhabitants sought refuge in the Abbaye aux Hommes (Men's Abbey).
The garden and colorful flowers around the Abbaye were beautiful.
Ruins from the battle are behind Paula and Melanie.
